WHEREAS: NEW YORK CITY HAS A RICH HISTORY OF PHILANTHROPY. FROM COOPER UNION TO CARNAGIE HALL, THE GENEROSITY OF INDIVIDUALS AND GROUPS HAS LEFT AN ENDURING IMPACT ON OUR CITY. TODAY, THE FOUNDATION CENTER, ONE OF OUR FOREMOST NATIONAL AUTHORITIES ON PHILANTHROPY, CELEBRATES ITS 50th ANNIVERSARY WITH A SYMPOSIUM ON THE FUTURE OF PHILANTHROPY.
WHEREAS: SINCE ITS ESTABLISHMENT IN 1956, THIS VITAL ORGANIZATION HAS CONNECTED NONPROFITS AND THEIR SUPPORTING ORGANIZATIONS TO THE RESOURCES THEY NEED TO CHANGE THE WORLD - INCLUDING DATABASES ON GRANT MAKERS AND THEIR GRANTS, RESEARCH ON TRENDS IN GIVING, AND CLASES ON FUNDARAISING. TODAY THE CENTER SUPPORTS AN ASTOUNDING 837,000 NONPROFITS WITH COMBINING ASSETS OF OVER 1.7 TRILLION, AND IS CONSTANTLY WORKING TO HELP FOUNDATIONS DEMONSTRATE THEIR VALUE TO SOCIETY, FIND DONORS, AND MEET OUR COMMUNITIES CHANGING NEEDS.
WHEREAS: 2006 WAS A BANNER YEAR FOR THE CENTER, AS IT INTRODUCED A NUMBER OF VITAL INITIATIVES. THESE INCLUDED A NEW RESEARCH INSTITUTE, WHICH WILL INNOVATE FORMS OF GIVING, PROVIDE DEEP ANALYSIS OF POLICY AND PRACTISE DEBATES; AND "FC ANYWHERE", WHICH, AS ITS NAME SUGGEST, GIVES GRANT SEEKER AUDIENCES LOCATED ANYWHERE AND EVERYWHERE ACCESS TO INFORMATION SERVICES AND EDUCATION.
